Small Touches That Take Your Home From Ordinary to Extraordinary

You may know all the design details you want to add to your home. Which faucets, hardware, paint colors, even furniture, but what about the things that help make your home run smoothly? There are countless “creature comforts” that may seem unnecessary to some, but adding them to your home could make a world of difference! Here are a few of our favorite tiny additions to make your life just a little easier!

Central Vacuum System. A central vacuum system is a collection of ducts and hoses that bring your everyday messes, whether that’s dirt, pet hair, crumbs, or tiny toys that were abandoned under the couch cushions, to a centralized storage unit in another area of your home. That means no more lugging Kirby up and down the stairs or releasing all of the dust and dirt you just cleaned up back into the room while emptying your vacuum.

Zero Threshold Shower. When you’re investing the time and money to remodel your home, you’re thinking about your future in that home, so why not make things a little easier for future you? Removing the threshold, which is the little step leading into your shower, means you won’t have to worry about falling in the shower later on in life when your mobility isn’t what it used to be.

Heated Bathroom Floors. This is something you will never regret. There isn’t much in this life that is worse than stepping out of a nice, warm shower onto ice cold tile floors. Okay, there are quite a few things worse, but this is something you can fix! Heated flooring throughout your whole home may be too extravagant, but it is a cost efficient way to bring a little bit of luxury to your bathroom.

Tankless Water Heater. This one is pretty self explanatory if you’ve ever had to take a shower directly after another person. Kind of like the cold tile, there are a lot of things that are worse than running out of hot water, but if you can prevent it, why wouldn’t you?!

Custom Kitchen Storage. Think of the things you use the most in your kitchen. Spices, a stand mixer, your espresso maker. All of these things, and pretty much anything else you can imagine, can have a custom spot that both saves space and helps your kitchen function a little more smoothly.

Recessed Outlets. This. This is something that you don’t know you need until you have it. Adding recessed outlets behind furniture means no more smashing and breaking your computer cord when it jets out of the wall and the couch gets shoved into it.

Outlets in Drawers. Adding an outlet to your bathroom drawers is a great way to keep small hair appliances off of the counters and out of the way! But remember, just because they’re hidden doesn’t mean you shouldn’t unplug them when they’re not in use!

Special Pet Perks. Your pets are a part of the family, so why wouldn’t they get a special place just for them? Add a special dog house under the stairs or a catwalk circling the living room to give them a little bit of excitement and freedom in your home!

Lighting Under Kitchen Cabinets. Simple strip lighting under your cabinets helps add ambiance and function to your kitchen! Lights will help break up the unused space and brighten your kitchen!

Secret Hideout for Kids. (Or adults who like to have fun!) If you have any unused space, or space that is being taken up by old holiday decorations we all know you don’t need, turn it in to a secret play space for the young, or young at heart, family members in your home!

Murphy Beds in Kid and Guest Bedrooms. This leaves the space multifunctional. A guest room could still be an office, and kids will have plenty of room to spread toys out and play! Plus, if their bed has to go somewhere at night so they’ll have to clean up to make room!
