Bathrooms on a Budget

Your bathroom is often put off and forgotten during remodeling, but it’s one of the most used rooms in your house! Why wouldn’t you want it to feel a little bit luxurious?! Your bathroom is an escape. Whether you’re standing at your vanity getting ready for a life changing meeting or just taking a quick bath to unwind after a long day, your bathroom should feel relaxing and quiet. So what if you’re ready to ditch the fake gold fixtures but you don’t have the budget for a spa getaway? Well, we’re here to tell you that it’s possible to have a tranquil and functional bathroom without the hefty price tag! Here are some tips for designing a luxury bathroom on a budget!

  1. Skip the expensive tile. Tile is tile. There are countless amazing options for beautiful tiles that will not break the bank. Marble may look beautiful, but it’s not necessary when trying to create a luxury feel. Visiting a showroom is the best way to see and compare different tiles to pick the best one for you!
  2. Decide what is most important to you. If you’re someone who loves to take baths, obviously a luxurious bathtub is going to be important to you. If you’re someone who doesn’t have an extensive getting ready routine, you won’t need a giant open countertop, while someone who has a large amount of grooming products may want a larger vanity area to spread out. Pick the things that will make your life easier and go from there!
  3. Do your research! Spend some time looking around for different fixtures and additions. Look at options and compare prices. But remember, always read reviews and don’t pick something just because it’s the cheapest option! Make sure it will hold us!
  4. Check out unconventional stores for odds and ends! Look around at big box stores, discount stores, and even grocery stores! You will find towels, shower heads, decor, and other small things for lower prices at stores like this!
  5. Refurbish your tub instead of replacing it! Depending on the current state of your tub, there are many options to just touch it up rather than buying a new one! Painting (with a special paint of course), caulking, retiling, replacing fixtures, and filling superficial nicks will give your tub a facelift without breaking the bank.
  6. Repaint current cabinets. Refreshing your vanity with some paint and new hardware will give it a clean look without having to buy a brand new one!
  7. Keep plumbing where it is. We know that moving things around may seem like a great idea, but moving plumbing (and electrical) can get super costly. Avoid moving the sink, toilet, and shower if at all possible!
  8. If adding a new bathroom or converting a half bath to a full bath, add a shower stall instead of a shower/bath combo. Bathes are always a great addition, but they can get costly to add in. Unless it’s absolutely necessary, don’t blow your budget on a brand new bathtub!
  9. Use framed mirrors instead of custom cut mirrors. Finding affordable mirrors that look just as nice as custom ones  is pretty simple at various home design stores! Getting custom glass can eat up quite a bit of your budget.
  10. Hire a general contractor. Managing your project by yourself may seem like the best way to save money, but if things are done incorrectly it could end up costing significantly more in the long run. A professional contractor will oversee every aspect of your remodel and ensure that everything is getting done safely, correctly, and in a manner made to last!
